Family Camping

We typically take two camping trips each year; one in the fall and one in the spring. The fall trip is at Morro Bay. We spend the spring trip in a desert biome; Joshua Tree or Anza Borrego. Families must reserve a spot on the group site by making reservations with the family camp coordinator by the deadline. Students and their families participate in field based seminars that are held by science magnet teachers and Professor Selby from Santa Monica College. Students can earn up to two seminar credits by turning in their field seminar packet the week following the trip.

On the family participation camping trips, SMSM reserves the camping sites but the families are responsible for everything else – their own transportation, tents, food, firewood, etc. Camp sites are shared (8 people per camp site). During the family camping trip, students are under the jurisdiction of their parents at all times! See below for upcoming trip information.
